About My Process
In the restoring process I try to maintain the original functionality of the blade while bringing it to a better aesthetic appearance. this includes cleaning the rust off of the blade with a soft acid so as not to remove any of the steel. Then grinding the pits down as much as I feel comfortable with which are sometimes not entirely grinded out. This is because in order to remove those deeper pits I would be thinning out the blade too much and it would then be much more susceptible to warping and cracks/fractures in that area. On my knives in better condition I will also polish the surfaces to really highlight the quality of it. Although sometimes I receive a knife that is far too damaged to maintain the original purpose. So in these cases Ill do my best to repurpose the blade and transform it into another type of knife.
-
I source old knives in rough conditions from a variety of online sources and individuals. these knives usually have deep rust pits and chipped edges that require a good amount of time to bring back to working condition. I custom make all my handles, unless stated otherwise, and I try to make each handle personalized for each knife and person I’m creating it for. The wood I source from an online warehouse that to my knowledge ethically sources their wood.
-
Once I have the physical blade it usually takes 3 to 9 days to clean the blade, grind it, polish it, then sharpen. If there’s a special request and I need to source a new blade, I typically receive them a week after I order them.
-
Currently my customization options are resurfacing, polishing, re-handling, simple handle engraving, and custom handle materials and shapes, and a variety of edge sharpening techniques (single bevel edge, multiple bevel edge, and convex edge). All customizations can be done to any knife with the potential of additional charges.
